The Operational license of Dana Airlines has been withdrawn by the federal government following the crash of Flight 0992 on Sunday.
The decision was taken by the Senate on Tuesday during its plenary session. The lawmakers also ordered the Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Harold Demuren, to step aside until the conclusion of investigation into the accident.
The Senate further asked aviation authorities to conduct an airworthiness audit of the airlines in the country. Making the demand in a statement, the lawmakers said it would insist the audit is spread to other airlines in the country.
“Senate demands nothing, but a holistic investigation of the remote and immediate causes of the plane crash,” it reads. “Senate would also insist that the probe this time should not be limited to Dana Airlines and their fleet, but all the airlines operating in Nigeria.
“We had thought that Nigeria had landed in the golden era of safe aviation industry, where all the standard codes that conform with international best practices were being complied with.”
