Umar Abdulmutallab, the underwear bomber trained in Yemen but of Nigerian parentage has been sentenced by US District Judge Nancy Edmunds to mandatory life sentence.
Abdulmutallab, 25, was sentenced after pleading guilty in October to eight charges, including the attempted murder of 289 people on board Detroit-bound Northwest Airlines Flight 253.
His lawyers had tried to argue that the sentence was unconstitutional, especially as he harmed no one but himself – but failed.
