House maid Steals Employer's $5,500

A house maid, Grace David, 29, from Akwa Ibom State, has been arraigned before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court on a count charge of stealing.
The prosecution alleged that the accused was arrested following a complaint lodged by Mr. Komal Banstgm, an expatriate that the accused stole his $5,500.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to stealing the money and handed it over to some fraudsters who fled with it.

The accused stated that she boarded a cab at Obalende to Ikoyi with three occupants inside and on their way, one of them brought out a box containing US Dollars that they stole it from their boss.
“They explained to me that they only needed little money to ward off the curse placed on it by the owner. I was promised N1 million to start my own business if I could assist them.
“They begged and pleaded with me to go and bring my master’s money and that it would be paid back to me. But after they collected the money, they just disappeared,” the accused confessed to the police.
After interrogation, she was charged to court for stealing. The offence, according to the prosecutor Inspector Gbemileke Agoi, is punishable under Section 285 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
The charge reads: “that you Grace David on 26 January 2012 at Aso Street, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi, Lagos in the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal the sum of $5,500, property of Mr. Komal Banstgm.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. O. I. Oguntade, admitted her to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum who must provide evidence of their residence which must be verified by the prosecutor.
She adjourned the matter till 28 February 2012 for mention.
When nobody came to bail the accused in good time, she was moved to Kirikiri Prison, Apapa on remand.
