Trial to begin for Akolade Arowolo, accused of killing spouse

Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, has recommended the trial of 30-year-old unemployed graduate, Akolade Arowolo, before a High Court sitting, for allegedly killing his wife, Titilayo, at their residence in Isolo, Lagos.

The DPP, Vanguard gathered, said the suspect (Akolade) has a case to answer in the alleged killing of his wife, ordering that the matter be transferred to the High Court.
Mrs. Olabisi Odugbesan, the DPP, in her advise on the matter, pointing out that the suspect and the deceased were married and further facts revealed that after the incident, the suspect jumped out through the fence with blood-stained clothes.

The DPP advice read, “Post-mortem shows extensive injuries from a sharp knife which could not have occurred through self injury. In view of the aforesaid, the office shall prosecute the defendant at the High Court.”

It will be recalled that the suspect, who was remanded in prison custody, was arraigned on a one-count charge of murder on July 8, 2011, before a Yaba Magistrate’s Court, Lagos.

When the matter came up on September 9, his counsel informed the court that his client went through surgical operation at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, Idi-Araba, Lagos, following which the matter was further adjourned till October 26, 2011. On the said date,  Akolade and his lawyer were absent from the court, while the matter was further adjourned till December 9.
