Spansh thief eats £10k diamond to hide evidence

A Spanish thief stole a Brit’s £10k diamond and swallowed it in a bid to hide the evidence from police.
Four people have been arrested after a pendant containing the diamond was stolen from a handbag placed on a restaurant floor in the plush beach resort of Marbella on the Costa del Sol.

“Two well-dressed men entered the restaurant, one of them stayed at the bar and the other took the table next to the women. “The women then noticed both men had left the restaurant and that the handbag was missing,” police said in a statement.

According to the National Police, other valuables inside the purse included 2,000 euros and £400 in cash and a mobile phone.
A car was later stopped at a routine checkpoint in southern Spain after it was discovered that four passengers in the vehicle had a criminal history.

Police then discovered the handbag containing all the valuables except the pricey diamond.
Officers from the National Police Station-Benalmádena Torremolinos became suspicious after one of the men put a hand to his mouth.

Police said that the gesture and the fact that they had found the pendant without the diamond made them think he may have swallowed it.
“To find the stone, those arrested were taken to a medical center where they underwent X-rays, and the diamond was located inside the stomach of one of them.”

The thief admitted to swallowing the diamond.
