Abeokuta: Gunmen kill ACN chieftain

DISASTER struck late Saturday night in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital when some armed hoodlums suspected to be hired killers stormed the residence of an Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, chieftain and state Vehicle Inspection Officer, VIO, Chief Yomi Bamgbose and shot him to death.
The state capital was thrown into mourning as residents trooped to his house at Olorombo in the Ijeun Titun area of the ancient town to see what actually happened to the popular 53-year-old politician.
The Deputy Governor, Prince Segun Adesegun, and the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Taiwo Adeoluwa were among the first callers at the residence where they met people weeping.

Late Chief Bamgbose was said to be getting ready to drive out of his house at about 10.20pm in a Peugeot 406 saloon car to drop a female visitor when the hoodlums accosted him at the driveway into the house.
Seeing gun wielding men around him, he was said to have shouted thereby distracting the hoodlums which gave him the opportunity to get down from the car and took to his heels.
But the armed assailants were said to have given him a hot chase and when they caught up with him dragged him for over 100 metres back to the gate of his house where he was made to lie down and shot at close range.
