Mother was on facebook when her 22-month old daughter was run over and killed by a van

A mother was allegedly checking her Facebook account when her daughter wandered outside and was struck and killed by a van.
Karen Pena, 30, faces child abuse charges after allegedly telling police she hadn't been keeping an eye on 22-month-old Laniece Fletcher because she was reading her messages online.

Investigators say their apartment in Aurora, Colorado, was filthy, and the yard - where Laniece had been left to play - contained a broken gate, a can of lighter fluid and a paddling pool with five inches of water in it.
Little Laniece was killed on May 28, after she wandered out of the yard and into the parking lot.
She was struck by a van which takes children with disabilities to a local hospital. The driver had just dropped a child off at the apartment block when she felt a 'bump'.
She rushed out of the car and discovered she had run the little girl over, crushing her skull. Laniece died the next day in hospital.
