Doctor faces jail for giving baby bad milk

Abu Dhabi police arrested a doctor and his nurse at a private hospital on charges of giving an ill baby bad milk which caused him vomiting and diarrhea.The unnamed doctor had prescribed 16 special milk boxes to the three-month-old boy after diagnosing his illness and asked his nurse to give him one box before sending him home, according to source.

At home, the baby’s mother noticed that all the milk boxes had expired six months ago and hurried back to the hospital, where the doctor apologized and asked her just to put them in the bin, the paper said.

“The doctor asked the mother to bring the baby back to hospital in case there is any deterioration in the boy’s condition, but the father decided to report the doctor and his nurse to the police,” the paper said.It did not identify the hospital but quoted sources at the Abu Dhabi prosecution office as saying the doctor and the nurse face prison and fine or both penalties. In case the baby suffers from any repercussions, they could be jailed for three years, it said.
