Former Akwa Ibom Commissioner for Youths and Sports dies in Auto Crash

Just a few days after Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State dissolved the state’s executive council, Commissioner for Youths and Sports in the dissolved cabinet, Pastor Oyong Asuquo has died after a fatal auto crash. The crash occurred while the erstwhile commissioner was travelling from Uyo to Oron, where he had gone to make arrangements for the local government primaries in his council area early Saturday morning; he had reportedly received a distress call to attend an urgent meeting in Uyo, about 40 kilometres away from Oron.

Driving at top speed ostensibly to meet up with the call, Asuquo was said to have lost control over the car, which veered off the main road, hit the pavement on the road side, and tumbled. Though he did not die on the spot, he bled profusely in a critical condition, and was rushed to Domingo Specialist Hospital Ben Udo Street, Ewet Housing Estate, for medical attention.
He was confirmed dead minutes after arriving at the hospital; and his remains was deposited at the morgue of the Domingo Funeral Home, along Nwaniba Road.
