Police arrest four over lovers corpses in car

Kano State police said four persons have been arrested and detained over the death of a man and a woman on Wednesday in Kano, northcentral.
The two lovers, in their 20s, were found dead on Tuesday inside a Peugeot 406 at Kundila quarters in Kano.
According to Daily Trust, the young man was identified as Abubakar Abba by his brothers while the lady was identified as Ummul Khairi Muhammad.
Kano State police spokesman, Magaji Majiya, said yesterday that four people were now in police custody helping with investigation.
Majiya said the final report of the autopsy has not been released but a medical personnel, who pleaded for anonymity, said there was a “likelihood that they might have died of poisoning as their bodies and mouths showed signs similar to those who died of food poisoning.”

A witness, who pleaded for anonymity, said security officials found some items in the purse of the lady and the wallet of the late Abubakar.
A lady, who claimed to have been with them in a restaurant some few hours before they were found dead, revealed that Ummul Khairi had about N250,000 with two blackberry phones. The girl was later said to have been arrested by security operatives for questioning.
A family relative who spoke with our reporter on phone, said Abubakar was not Ummul Khair’s boyfriend but was one of her “Blackberryfriends.” The duo have been buried according to Islamic rites in Kano.
In a separate incident, four suspects who allegedly specialised in robbing passengers in their cab have been arrested by the police at Alausa Division, Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.
The suspects, Augustine Ibeneme, 58, Chukwuemeka Uzor, 39, and two ladies, Ufoma Efe, 26, and Nneka Orji, 28, were arrested along Obafemi Awolowo Way, Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja as they allegedly attempted to rob a female victim.
A police source told P.M.NEWS that the suspects usually introduce dollar making business to their victims by claiming that they have some amount of dollars to share with whoever could pay them some thousands of naira.
The source added that when they offered a ride to their victim on Friday, they started discussing dollar business with her. But she suspected foul play and raised the alarm.
But as they tried to escape, the car ran into a crowd at a junction and was stopped by a mob who rescued the lady and arrested the four suspects.
They were handed over to the police at Alausa. The matter was later transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS.
One of the suspects, Nneka Orji, confessed to the police that she was one of the occupants of the car when they attempted to dupe their victim.
She denied that the gang members are armed robbers, insisting they are fraudsters who dupe suspects who board their cab.
In his statement, Chukwuemeka Uzor claimed to be a danfo driver, saying he was lured into the ‘business’ by a friend he said is now deceased.
Augustine Ibeneme, who hails from Abia State, blamed poverty for his involvement in crime.
He denied making any money since he joined the gang.
A single mother with three children, Ufoma Efe, claimed she was lured to join the gang because she had accommodation problem and a caretaker demanded N65,000 from her which she could not afford.
P.M.NEWS learnt that the four suspects will be arraigned before an Ikeja court soon.
