Many students of Yoruba and lovers of culturally-rich films produced by the talented cinematographer, Tunde Kelani, will no doubt be familiar with the enviable manner in which prolific poet, actor, and writer, Adebayo Faleti, weaves the beauty of the language.
He is so fluent in its traditions that it will be difficult to believe that he did not study it in the university. Faleti , who attended the University of Dakar, Senegal , where he studied French , and the University of Ibadan is, a master in the poetics of Yoruba language.

His intellectual and creative fervour will be underlined on Wednesday at the UI, Theatre Arts Department when the first day of a two-day event celebrating his 80th birthday opens. That day, he will not be performing as he did in Saworo-Ide, Agogo-Ewo and Afonja, among others, but the audience, including him, are expected to reflect on a film titled, ‘‘Fere bi ekun.’’

The programme, organised by the Grand Council of Yoruba Youths, in conjunction with the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, will, on Thursday , at the university’s Conference Centre, feature a public lecture titled, Ipa Ribibi ti Iwa Omoluwabi ati Asa nko Ninu Idagbasoke Orile Ede (The importance of good conduct and culture for national development ).
